Vaaranam Aayiram "Aayiram Yaanagalai Soozhavandhan"

I just managed to sneak into the first day first show at the Fun Cinemas at Sigma Mall Bangalore to view the highly expected movie "Vaarnam Aayiram" meaning "1000 Elephants" in English starring Surya sivakumar in dual roles, Simran Bagga, Deepa Narendran, Divya Spandana, Sameera Reddy and directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon and music by Harris Jeyraj. The movie is produced by Aascar Films Pvt ltd V. Ravichandran.

The movie is all about Emotions, Love, Sacrifice and an Aim to achieve great things in life. Its a tribute to every father from his son. The movie revolves around Surya Sivakumar ( Surya) recalling the incidents that span during his life time and how his DADDY, played again by Surya ( Krishnan) motived him all during his life time. Gautham Menon has neatly crafted a superb movie that would please the mass audience ranging from youth to older generations.

Surya is a Air force combat officer working in the Indian Air force on a mission to rescue a kidnapped lady from terrorists in Kashmir. During his mission, he gets a call from the Base camp informing him that his Father has passed away. Now, the entire story unfolds and is neatly captured and framed on the celluloid screen. Surya recalls his father ( Krishnan), how he fell in love with her mother (Simran), how they got married and also about her sister too. Their parents were inspirational in surya life. He recalls his juvenile age, college life and his passion for playing music on his guitar. During his college days, he falls in love with a beautiful girl Meghna ( Sameera Reddy) and expresses his love to her. Meghna moves to the United States to pursue M.S in computer engineering and suriya travells to US to find her. Finally the love blooms and a couple of excellent songs are played including the super hit "Adiye Kolludhe". An unfortunate incident happens where Sameera Reddy gets killed in a Bomb blast during a seminar trip to Oklahama City. Suriya's life is shattered and he is unable to cope up with the tragedy. Later he comes back to Chennai. Here he get's addicted to drugs, Alcohal and smoking inorder to forget the pain of losing his lady love.

Krishan consoles him and motivates him to quit all these bad habits and inspires him to take challenges. Then he goes to Kashmir's pleasant valley and nature just to get reformed himself into a good man .Here he rescues Aditya ( Son of Shankar Menon) from the cluthes of notorious gangster Azad. He feels he has achieved some great thing in life.
Surya decides to join Indian army since he had a great passion to serve the Indian Army ever since childhood. He joins the Indian Military academy (IMA) and meets Childhood friend Divya Spandana who proposes her love to him. Both fall in love and soon get married.

Finally Surya ventures into a combat operation to save a kidnapped women from terrorists and on the way, he gets the sad news that his father is no more. The entire movie is all about surya recalling his childhood, youth life, adult hood and how is DADDY inspired him in each and every moment of his life.

Vaarnam aayiram is certainly not the typical expected cop, action movies like Khakha Khakha and Vetaiyadu Vilayadu. It's a movie from Gautham Menon which seems to be pretty close to his heart and would probably be inspired from his real life. He really needs to be applauded for this wonderful effort. This movie is a three long hour of sentimental drama, emotions, love, tragedy, fun, etc. Surya is simply superb in all scenes. His image in the cop role is mind blowing and he looks like a handsome army officer with the traditional army hair cut. The women folks would certainly love him for his masculine toned body which includes a 6 pack abs.Simran Steals the show with her acting skills. Sameera reddy and Divya Spandana are cute and have acted well. This is certainly the best movie from Gautham Menon. Hats off to Surya for the best performance of his life. He really deserves the appreciation for his dedication, sincerity and hardwork which has clearly reflected on the screen in terms of his body language and the multiple roles he has enacted in. The music work done by Harris Jeyaraj is brilliant.


This is a movie, that stands close to my heart. It will surely be a blockbuster movie. This is a movie which pays tribute from a person to his father. We feel sad that the successfull combination of Gautham Menon and Harris Jeyaraj have parted ways due to indifferences and one day we hope they would come back together to make another classic. Hope the best again for Gautham's next venture "Chennayil Oru Mazhaikalam".

Dasavatharam " A True Masterpiece"

Let me tell you about my views on Dasavatharam. I got a chance to see the movie this sunday ( 15th June).

This movie is truly a masterpiece and an eye opener to Indian cinema!!!. The movie, Dasavatharam , is truly a sight to behold. The story, directing, acting, camera work, special effects, everything about it is amazing. The First 15 minutes of the movie itself is a treat to watch. The Grandeur, the extraordinary architectural work by National award winner ThottaDharani in creating the sets that resemble the ancient 12th century temple is truly amazing. The emotions expressed by Kamal when the king ( Napolean) orders him to chant shiva hymns makes one feel that he cries out from his heart. One must notice the difference between the body structure of 12th century Rangarajan Nambi and the scientist ( Govind).The body language is quite different in each role.

The local tamil speaking audience or the class B and C class audience would find it difficult to understand the languages that are spoken in the movie. The subtitles used is of a small help and might be a distraction.However, the story has to be made in that way and no way, a movie-buff could accept George bush or Fletcher speaking Tamil. The story line demanded that all the respective characters expresses themselves in their languages that fits their roles. 12th century Kamal's chidambaram Tamil language, Govind's US accent, Fletchers Rude expressions, Balram naidu's mix of Telugu and Tamil accent,Japanese language, Kalifullah's urdu based tamil, Vincent Poovaragan Madurai accent and much more clearly Indicates or proves why Kamal is a true genius and a versatile actor capable of not just enacting multiple roles but also speak different languages .This can be termed as a major revolution or change in the history of Indian cinema.

Truly Jackie chan describes in his personal website after seeing the movie during the music launch, "Dasavatharam is an eye opener for world cinema" . He also tell his Chinese counterparts that "directors in Hong Kong and China, watch this movie and start working harder than ever, because very soon now, Indian cinema will overtake us in the eyes of the international audience!"

Most people who have watched the movie may have been disappointed with the way the story goes. Some may complain that there was no need for 10 roles, there is no proper story, the language spoken is not understandable etc etc and all other stuffs. But an Intelligent person can explain why the movie is a class in its own.

Tell me, has anyone ever attempted like this ever in Indian cinema? Has any actor taken so much hardship and pain to achieve this record? Never!!!! Remember Ajith's movie "Citizen" also had similar kind of roles. Critics may say that kamal did this movie just for inscribing his name in the record books. I would say, everyone in this world has that intentions to do something unique and would like to be a record holder.Every element was amazing to me; and all the elements together just made a perfect and incredible movie! Indian Cinema audiences are still glued to stories such as romantic hero and heroine dancing around a tree, heroes killing villain for silly reasons, heroine's father targetting the hero etc etc. Lets wake up and appreciate from our heart to this living legend for his outstanding performance and his great work towards Indian Cinema.

It takes sheer guts, patience and confidence to do this kind of highly cumbersome role. The legend Kamal may not be bothered about getting into record books or not. He preaches good cinema and takes Indian cinema to International level. Each and every aspect of this movie is linked and it should be real foolishness to just say that there was no story. Kamal Hassan is one amongst the best screenplay writers in India. He has carefully observed and has worked hard on each role before giving the final shot.

He has done enough justice to this movie. If anyone has observed clearly, during the last Tsunami scene; as the water rises, the boats on the shore move away deeper into the sea and gradually goes down a little bit. Clearly a sign of amazing creativity.Each and every scene has been shot perfectly.

Guys and Girls, plz go watch the movie at theaters. Think why the movie was made, why the story required 10 characters, why is it a different movie? Appreciate the work. Good work should needs appreciation, be it either Kamal, Rajini, Ajith, Vijay or anyone else from any part of this world. Start analyzing and ask yourself "Isn't it a fabulous job by Kamal Sir"? This movie makes people think and give work to their brains.

Final Verdict!!! A great and a valiant attempt. The news going around the corners is that, the collections would be nearing 200 crores by the end of 2nd week ( Refer Bangalore Mirror dated 16th june). This in fact is a sign of Victory and the movie is Kamal Hassan's biggest hit.

My Childhood Days

A seed sown gives rise to a big tree. Similary, a bud gives rise to flower or a fuit. Everything in this world has a beginning. Among them there is one precious, memorable and most beautiful phase in a human being's life ie " Childhood"..

This is my first blog and I would like to share my childhood days with you guys ...............

Childhood is the best and the most beautiful phase in a person's life. It is a memorable phase in which nobody wants to forget the feelings and memories attached with it... The thoughts, actions, feelings,joy, excitement are childish and embedded with fun and love. It's a great sight to watch cute, innocent kids and their expressions on their face during their childhood days..

My childhood days were spent in this beautiful city of Bangalore known as the "Garden city". My father is a bank employee and my mom, a housewife. we lived in vasanth nagar area in bangalore.. my elder sister was 2 years elder to me and younger sister was not born at that time.. Few of those memories are still afresh in my mind and others cannot be unrecalled.

I remember my first day at school. I was crying,holding my mother's hand from the moment I left my home and was heading towards the school.. Tears started rolling down my cheeks as soon as I neared the school. My mom handed me over to the teacher and she left. I was inconsolable and the day passed away sheeding litres of tears!! Gradually in a day or two, I got used to the new environment and buddies over there... No longer I shedded tears. My sister used to go to a different school at vasanth nagar "St. Annes school". I believe I would have been 6 years old. we used to read those stories from the books and enjoyed it thoroughly. Those days were golden period. Once back to home from school, I used to go to the neighbourhood house to play with my childhood dost by name "Uday"..
Uday's mother was very loving and caring.. she used to prepare egg toast that I still remember for its unique lip smacking taste. My sister had a close frend by name Panjamani.. Panjamani's sister Menaka was very close to me and my mother used to tell me that I used to be in her arms everytime..I was fondly called as "Chinu" by Menaka akka. Everyone in my neighbourhood loved me ; the shopkeeper, clinic warden, neighbourhood aunty. As days went by and I grew. we shifted to Malleshwaram 18th cross in a posh residential apartment. This was in the year 1989. At that time residing in an apartment was considered luxury only to the high income family. It was difficult for us to get settled intially. After few months, we got frends in the new locality.. The apartment name was "Gitanjali" and we lived in the fourth floor. Gradually, we started making new frends. The joy of travelling in a auto rickshaw in bangalore was amazing. Me and my sister were sent to school in an auto. Back from school, we used to play with our neighbourhood frends with games ranging from Kanna Boochi " Hide and seek". Antakshari, playing with toys. The most enjoyable game was the hide and seek. since the apartment was very vast, most of the kids took shelter in the parking basement, top floor and even used elevators. Those were the best days of my life... Days passed by and my father got transferred to Punjab and we had to depart and say good bye to old good frends.

We came to Punjab in the year 1991. It was very difficult to get adjusted to the new place. The place was different, the people, everything was new to us and we didn't find any good hotels to have food. It took more than 2 months for us to get settled. My father admitted us to a school by name "Sacred Heart's School" in Moga, Punjab. This school was run by a ex-serviceman and his wife, both hailing from Madurai town in Tamil Nadu. It was a sigh of relief for my mother as she didn't have anybody to converse with her in Tamil. Luckily, many of the teachers who taught us in the school were from Southern India and most teachers would visit our home. The boredom was vanished for my mother and all of us. I got admitted to 2nd standard and my elder sister in 4th standard. At that time, both of us knew just English, Tamil and Kannada. We neither knew Hindi nor Punjabi. I learnt Punjabi and Hindi and within a year, I was very well conversant in both languages. The school was very large in area and we commuted to the school in a cycle rickshaw. The joy of travelling in a cycle rickshaw was awesome.. The summer season in most parts of Punjab was really hot and the winter season was very cold.
